Z axis would be nice, not so much jumping/climbing.

Jumping I will agree with.

Purely for when you get stuck behind Minions or your henches and you cant move in any direction until they die.

I dont know whether jumping would help in that situation, but it might.

Check this out...
/jump

3rd of problem solved

Climbing... Forget it they'll never implement it. No great advantage in doing so.

Swimming on the overhand... Yeah why not. if Everquest can manage it dont see why GW can't. Plus it'll give rise to a whole new range of monsters and scenery.
Or... do what they did in champions of norrath and make them walk and breath underwater, bit of a copp out but meh.

Can you in the love of god stop comparing GW with WoW...

I've been playing GW for over 15 months now and i never had any issue with not being able to jump.
Wanna jump? go back to WoW i'd say (and this is no flame-bait)
It's been the dev's choice to not put in jump/climb/swing trees for a reason so they won't change it
Just my two cents

Jumping and swimming should be available... it's fun!
I don't see why an Elementalist - half naked, BTW, should have any issues when it comes to jumping... hevy armor? don't think so.
And why not swimming? it's just fun!
I hate the "can't go there" on a map. And that stupid thing - when you are on a small hill and you can't come down unless taking the road... you know what i mean! (hopefully) :P

That would, at this point, require a complete world redesign and to no real effect beyond letting retarded children jump around a lot (ie WoW).

You're an idiot. I'd give an explanation as to why, but if it's not obvious to you, then you should know you're an idiot.

How old is this topic anyways? Jesus.

Idk about jumping and such, but I would like to see different variety instead of fight fight fight all the time.

are you calling him an idiot for saying there would have to be a massive redesign?

if so one example is the trail that passes right below you that you could simply jump down to.

problem is that the trail passes through half of the entire mission area before snaking back tothe jump point.

there are for example 2 more similar jump choices.

3 jumps and you are home free in 5 minutes yelling there is no content or do the mission as intenden taking 1-3 hours and saying there is a ton of content.

jumping would make a mockery of going past obsticals.

These are annoyances, and hardly essential. Climbing? That just slows you down. put a hill and we can get to places faster. Jumping? Why? So you can annoy your team by jumping around everywhere you go? Think this won't be a problem? Play World of Warcraft where every Night Elf jumps 200 times a minute. It gets annoying. And finally swimming. A new way to drown besides water magic?

Honestly none of these are necessary for a game like Guild Wars. Guild Wars is about the action, the battles. Not jumping around and climbing cliffs.

Two thumbs down!

Didn't Jeff Strain say that they realized they should have added simple things like Jumping in hind sight? And it is definetly something they will look into in the future?

Yal need to can all this it can't happen BS, there is nothing from Anet confirming that, as if a game engine can't undergo enhancement and redevelopement, as if it woln't anyway.

If a short cut to some previous maps becomes available with jumping, big deal, most of us will never see those missions again, and anyone still stuck or starting in prophecies can use all the shortening they can get. People act like everything should be limited by what we already have, Didn't you learn your lesson when Factions came out?

not quite.

he said if we could do it over it might have been done differently

when he said that was something to think about in the future it did not necessarily refer to a future GW chapter .

it could have been simply that the next game after the GW franchise will be different.

that is incorrect as the devs flatly stated it would take a complete rewrite to integrate a third axis into the existing engine.

that in fact it would be a complete, new, INCOMPATABLE engine

this is not something they are going to do in midstream

I think this thread just needs to be closed. Every point that has been brought up in the most recent thread res have already been discussed on both sides(including the whole short cut due to jumping bit). If this thread stays open, it will simply be ressed habitually whenever someone wishes to rehash a dead topic.

To the posters above: for answers to your arguments, please read back a few pages or so, you'll find most (if not all) of your answers there.

But that's just my two cents

so to summarise... We would like to jump, swim, climb, f***, fly, ride horses and take a crap in GW but the game design is such that it is not possible. Lets just dream about it and put an end to this thread.

That would complicate things waay too much.
On the other hand, swimming as a recreational thing could be fun, especialy in guild halls will lots of water. Like a beach party :P

Guild Wars isnt a game which speicalizes in Human Movement or infact, anything human at all.
Like so:
In some games, to heal you eat.
Guild Wars? No, just alcohol.
In some games you have to sleep.
Guild Wars? No, just nothing.
Go on with Climb, Swim and Jump and you might think of more.
Yes, Guild Wars lacks basic Human Function, but Guild Wars doesnt work like that. It's about being a Hero who doesnt get tired while trying to kill Abaddon or needs to swim across lakes where they might get ambushed in the mighty heroness.
Problems with the proposed functions.
Jump: Not so much a problem here. But updating the game and stuff, kinda hard. Oh and, how would you use it?
Swim: Can you attack while swimming? Very hard.
Climb: Very bad. Very, very bad. at least 1/2 the original map space would need to be included to suite this.

I'm not gonna sign or not sign this as I feel that additional feature are always welcomed so long as they are within the devs' abilities and ANet's willingness to go that way.

Anyway, to those who are looking at immersion, I agree that GW has alot of potential in growing that area (since it hasn't implemented much things related to RPG feel). However, I think that it is best for those who seek immersion to try another game (most of these games may require subscription) and if immersion is the key factor to your enjoyment, I think it'll be worth it. GW is one of those few games that are both good and poor (in terms of action and RPG elements respectively) when compared to the rest. GW was designed with PvP in mind, even its PvE aspects are built on PvP as a foundation. I've tried a few MMORPGs recently since I decided to quit playing GW anymore and I must say, the really good ones offer an exciting adventuring experience that GW can never offer (no matter how many improvements are made in the future). GW's game design had never catered for such controls and by adding them, may result in some implications. Anyway, even if they were added in, GW will most likely still never compare to other MMORPGs in the RPG experience aspect. GW's strength is still in action, ease of gameplay and the lack of subscription fees; other than that, GW is at best an equivalent of Diablo II (though I find the latter much better in terms of gameplay). If freedom of movement is more of a want, you can still carry on hoping for its implementation in GW (since anything is possible), but I advice not to hold high hopes for it.

What I really wanna say is that, while having all these improvements are good; it may hurt some of the players who rather improvements be made elsewhere. Although, it may benefit those who are looking for better immersion aspects of the game, I feel that immersion does not only depend on simply character maneuvering variety (it is also affected by factors such as interaction with surroundings, the lore, etc) so all this don't really look like it will help in the long-run. Seriously, perhaps consider trying out another game and make comparisons (maybe with the free ones first if you've not done so yet). GW being called an RPG is quite an insult to the genre, but that's only how I feel about it as an RPG; if I take it more as an action game (with character development and fantasy settings), I can rank GW easily near the top.
